UAE Excise Designated Zone (DZ) Renewal Process

By August 23, 2024January 22nd, 2026Indirect Tax, Tax Updates

We would like to bring to your notice that Excise DZ renewal for DZs registered on 1 October 2017/1 October of any year has a validity until 30/09/2024. We would request all registrants to plan and collate information (including workings) for renewal – renewal application must be submitted 30 days prior to the date of renewal.

Practically, we have experienced that if documents are not submitted within the time frame on the Emaratax portal, the Excise DZs under consideration may automatically be suspended by the FTA. In such a case, the renewal process becomes difficult. Also, production, imports, and exports get impacted during the period of suspension.

We would request that you consider the below aspects during the renewal phase:

  • Keep monitoring the application status and respond to the queries/re-submissions.
  • If there are GTIN/inventories having negative stock – FTA may request you to reconcile and rectify the same.
  • Initiate discussions with Bankers for the new/updated Financial Guarantees.
  • Ensure that the DZs with which your company is dealing should have a valid DZ certificate (along with the status of the portal as active). In the absence of a valid DZ certificate, there would be a risk of doing business.
